Gift Wrap 101: Mother’s Day Garden Theme Gift

In celebration of Mother’s Day on May 12th, we are bringing you a very simple garden theme gift including a FREE seed organization printable for everyday gardening.To creatively wrap your Mother’s Day gift, we’ve taken a fun dot patterned fat quarter (or fabric quarter) from Joann Fabrics and paired it with a yard of fushia satin ribbon. This type of fabric is traditionally found in cut rolls or flat squares and can be purchased for $1-$2. The fabric comes in many fun prints to match your gift. Satin ribbon can be cut and purchased by the yard or by the roll.To create this garden theme gift, we’ve selected a few non-traditional items for the avid gardener… We’ve started with a boxed set of cute labels by Jessica Hische (purchase at Half Price Books or B&N). The labels can be used to mark seeds in the garden, book plates or even to decorate canning jars in the Fall. A New York Times Best Seller, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, available in paperback or Kindle. A pack of garden themed greeting cards “Kindness is a seed” and a 4×6 floral printed photo album with vertical windows to hold and organize unique seeds like Strawberry Popcorn (shown at left) by Livingston Seed Co. . To wrap: Open up the fat quarter and place pattern side down on a flat surface. Stack the gifts smallest to largest in the center of the fabric. Pull up the two longest sides of the fabric and secure with double-sided tape or gift wrap tape. Flip the gift upside down so the seam you just taped is on the bottom. Wrap as you would with wrapping paper. Tie with satin ribbon and this gift is ready to go! Use white fabric or paper newsprint and have your kids draw flowers, vegetables/fruits or their own design with Sharpies or crayons or for an extra special touch.
